Komen for the Cure®, the world’s largest breast cancer organization, which leads the global movement for breast cancer research, education, advocacy and community support. Churchill Downs Racetrack, host of the Kentucky Derby® and the Kentucky Oaks®, and Komen, formed a partnership to raise funds to aid in breast cancer awareness and research.

In addition, both organizations are working together to create special events throughout Oaks Day that will be featured in the “Ladies First” special, including a First Lady of Fashion Contest, a Survivors Parade and a special Kentucky Oaks winner’s circle formed by breast cancer survivors to celebrate the Kentucky Oaks winner’s victory on the track and the survivors’ victories over breast cancer. Since the official color of both the Kentucky Oaks and breast cancer awareness is pink, Churchill Downs is also staging a “Pink Out” at the track on Oaks Day and encouraging all Oaks attendees to wear pink or to incorporate pink into their attire for the day to show their support. Through the new partnership with Susan G. Komen, Churchill Downs will donate at least $100,000 to Komen by dedicating funds from Kentucky Oaks 136 general admission and reserve seating attendance.

We’ve met dorky boys, rude boys, handsome boys and girly boys but what’s one thing they all have in common: money! Tonight we say goodbye to Patti, her team, and catalog of millionaires on the season finale of Millionaire Matchmaker.

Shear Genius 2 on Shear Genius 3 - Charlie Price

Shear Genius 3 Blog- FINALE!

BRIG IT HOME!

While I am wrecked that it is over I thought the finale was fantastic! My prediction came true (yet again) and it came down to Brig and Janine – I love when an epic rivalry comes to a crescendo! Kinda like a porn movie but infinitely more satisfying, no? So lets dispense with fineries and start talking shit shall we?

THE CHALLENGE- I was thrilled as a SG fan and jealous as a former contestant. Creating hair for a famous fashion designer and sending it down a runway is the ultimate final challenge. Henry Duarte is no John Galliano-LOL- but he does epitomize high end Sunset Strip style glamour. His boutique is very cool, Rocker style at its best!

THE JUDGES-
Camila nailed it on the head with her observations, which made me wonder why she waited until the end of the series to speak up. Janine rehashed one of the tried and true signature pin sets of Trevor Sorbie without even the slightest tweak. Camila was right to call her on it.

Jonathon – While I appreciated him replacing his usual date-raper look with a dapper white tux jacket his judging was at its nadir. He has no taste, no industry credibility, and wouldn’t understand nuance if it was dancing naked like a lap dancer in front of his dumb ass.

Kim Vo –WOW! Miss Vo finally snapped to his senses and complimented a contestant. Brig no less! Honey, stop the presses! I agree with my favorite tranny for once. What a pleasant surprise. I hope it wasn’t a one-time only idiot savant moment.

Linda Wells-She was right on the money! She gave authoritative and articulate critiques and put Jonathon squarely in his place. If there was anyone on that show who could it was she! Go lady! LW puts the head in head bitch!

Blogging Bravo Interview with Janine Jarman

Shear Genius Season Three finalist, Janine Jarman talks about her experience on the show.

Thanks Janine!

Congratulations, Brig!

And a hearty congratulations goes to Brig Van Osten for being Shear Genius! She really was the one to watch throughout the whole competition, not just for her styling ability but for her high entertainment factor. In a competition ruled by two stylists whom Brig dubbed "the Wonder Twins," it was hard to imagine that the underdog would take it all in the end. And we're glad she did.

Brig, you wowed the judges with your innovative laminated styles. Kim Vo seemed especially impressed by your use of color. Linda Wells was thrilled by all of it, and Camila seemed to be as well. Only Jonathan Antin wanted to rain on your parade, but fortunately for you Mr Crankypants' vote was overruled by those of the other judges.

We're looking forward to seeing more of your work in the future, and we hope you'll drop by Blogging Bravo in the future to chat.

This post is for positive comments only. If you have anything negative to say about Brig or her work, or any of the other stylists, you may do so here.

Reactions to the Shear Genius Season 3 Finale

Well another season of Shear Genius has come and gone, and as usual, not without a bit of drama. And we like drama, don't we? ::::heads nodding::::

For the final challenge, Brig and the Wonder Twins were asked to style the hair of six models for a runway show for fashion designer Henry Duarte (who looked like what Lou Costello might have looked like had he been cast on the Addams Family). During their consultations with Duarte, somehow all three came up with the term "futuristic" to describe their concepts.

Back at the salon, Camila brings out six former contestants and allows Brig first choice of her assistants for the challenge (because she won last week's Elimination). She goes for Faatemah and April. Janine ends up with Yawn and Arzo, and Matthew gets Brian and Amy. They have three hours to do preliminary styling, including color, and three and one half more hours the next day before the show to finish their styles.

Brig decides to "laminate" her models' hair with tape, adding bits of multi-colored extensions. Janine goes for the frizzy look, and Matthew is all over the place with pretty much a different look for each of his models.

When all of the models finally come down the runway, I think all of the stylists have been smoking crack. And then when the judges make their proclamations, I think they're the crack suppliers. All but Jonathan raved about Brig's work, which was indeed new and exciting and innovative. The judges were divided over Matthew's and Janine's looks and it was pretty obvious who was going to get the win.

Gotta admit I was thrilled - thrilled - when Matthew was eliminated first. Ha! And then after a long commercial break, Camila announced that Brig, crazy Brig of the Yellow Hair was the WINNER. YESSSS! Gotta love an underdog.

So what did you think about the finale? Did you think Brig deserved the win? Or did one of the Wonder Twins? Please leave a comment!

Shear Genius 3 Finale Tonight

The third season comes to a close as the final three stylists team up with fashion designer Henry Duarte for their biggest challenge yet: each will have to style six models for a fashion show where the designer will debut Duarte’s new line of edgy rock-and-roll inspired clothing.

And of course, it wouldn’t be a finale without a guest appearance. A few familiar faces return to assist the final three in this no-holds-barred, two day long challenge. Editor-in-chief of Allure Magazine Linda Wells rejoins as the final guest judge.

Who will “wow” both her and the judges to be named “Shear Genius”? To find out, tune in for BRAVO’s Shear Genius 3 *Season Finale* Wednesday 4/7 @ 10/9c. More Info: http://www.bravotv.com/shear-genius

Shear Genius 2 on Shear Genius 3 - Charlie Price

Final Four

Hey freaks! Sorry I was away for a week, I was doing a Shear Genius All – Stars event at America’s Beauty Show in Chicago. It was a mini runway show during The Stylist’s Choice Awards with Nicole and myself from season 2 and Daisy and Ben from season 1! Here is my belated report on the goings on of season 3. My prediction for the final three came true –Matthew, Janine and Brig. It was really the only combo that has any cool dynamic. I knew they would get rid of Jon –he grew on me for sure but just wasn’t quite scandalous enough for the big finale.

The Judges:
Camila – Wow! She was even boring in her “getting to know you” chats with the stylists while they did her hair. I did like her updo in the elimination challenge. She certainly does have a head of hair to contend with too bad that’s all that is formidable about her. Her sweet nature and lovely personality just don’t “cut it”.

Jonathan-He acted so stupid when he was flabbergasted by Brig’s wacky updos. Hasn’t he ever picked up a fashion or hair magazine? He makes me nuts. I would love to judge his work.

Kim Vo – Everyone’s favorite tranny was mellow this week, maybe his meds were finally working. He also didn’t give us the scary snake tongue, which was a relief.

Oribe-The Cuban hair god did a good job, he looks good and I liked his comments. What was up with his voice though? Maybe he was out partying with Kim Vo all night before filming.

The Final Three

Janine: She is the most well rounded in a technical sense. I think her only problem is that she is focused so much on street fashion that her work isn’t as tasteful as it could be, she should either be more well rounded or more rock n roll. I think it will come down to Janine and Brig in the final two simply because of the feud between the two glorious gals.

Matthew: He has the best taste and does gorgeous high fashion styling. He does himself a disservice when he gives himself names like “The Natural” however. He should emphasize his prowess on photo shoots and agility with long sexy hair not give himself silly vague titles that don’t speak to his considerable talents. He has the best shot of acing the final fashion show challenge due to his years backstage at NY fashion week. This is precisely why he may not tho. They do love their little twists at Bravo.

Brig: She is the fun wild card. She brings life to the show and brands herself perfectly. Honey- she aint for everyone but who is? I think It remains a toss up between Janine and Brig for the big check! I hope they yell, scream and cry and claw each other’s eyes out in the final moments.

I am dying to find out who gets to wear the crown but I also don’t want it to end. I will even miss Kim Vo but then again I can just look toward Beverly Hills and see Kim Vos lips on the horizon and I will know that my trashy reality roots are always showing. Ms Vo and I will never truly part. OK bitches I must go think up some more ridiculous hair puns for my final blog! Toodles! XOXO

Blogging Bravo Interview with Jon Steinick

Shear Genius stylist Jon Steinick talks about his experience on the Bravo show. A highlight: Jon loves the Real Housewives!

Click here for the podcast. Thank you Jon.

Real Housewives of New York Previews

Tonight, on RHNY:

Project Brig!

Our favorite yellow-haired Shear Genius stylist, Brig Van Osten is getting her own spin-off show!

Tentatively called "Project Brig," the reality show will follow The Brigster as she operates her salon and launches her line of giant hair accessories, "Brig's Bows."

Filming begins this summer with a fall premiere on Bravo. Click here for the full press release.

BB Love to Jon

In this week's competition, Jon didn't impress the judges with his styles. Although he did a fantastic job on the lady with the thin hair, they criticized his choice of color. And even though he gave his other model a rich, realistic auburn tint, the judges didn't feel she looked sexy enough.

It must be hard to take when you're told that your personal style is "wrong," but Jon took it with amazing good grace, with aplomb. He was a great competitor and we are very sorry to see him leave.

This post is for positive comments about Jon. If you have anything negative to say about him and hisr work, or about any other aspect of the show, please do so here.

Congratulations, Brig!

Well, well - Brig is in the final three! Congratulations to her for not allowing herself to be intimidated by the other competitors, for remaining true to herself and her own personal style. Great work!

This week's Elimination Challenge proved that Brig is a force to be reckoned with, and we're happy to see her continue on in the competition. Next week should prove to be interesting, and exciting.

This post is for positive comments about Brig. If you have anything negative to say about her and her work, or about any other aspect of the show, please do so here.

Reactions to Shear Genius 3 Episode 9

Last night, on Shear Genius, the four remaining stywis were given a tough customer for the Short Cut Challenge - Camila Alves. They each had 45 minutes to style her rat's nest hair into something appropriate for an event. Camila was quite the backseat driver during the process, and even after each style was done she had harsh criticism for it. She thought Brig's updo wasn't age appropriate. "I'm a mom," says Camila. Yeah, but you're 28. Hardly a severe old fossil.

In the end - of course, could it be any other way? - Matthew was given the win.

On to the Elimination Challenge: with a win in the Short Cut, Matthew gets the advantage of choosing his models first. Yes, I said, "models." The challenge involved styling 2 models and themselves for a mini-portfolio of signature looks. In 2.5 hours. All four of the stylists had struggled with the 45 minute time limit for Camila's hair, and all they had to do was style it (even though she did need some serious root touch-up) so two-and-one-half hours doesn't seem like enough time to color, cut, and style two and maybe three people.  But what's a competition show without scenes of people panicking about not finishing in time?

Brig, bless her heart, goes right for the crazy by winding multicolored extensions around her model's heads. Janine goes for an afro and a short-on-one-side-long-on-the-other 'do with purple tips. Matthew takes one of his models who already has perfect blonde hair and makes it super-blonde and curls it out to.......there. His other model has heavy bangs which make her look sleepy. Finally Yawn does a really nice job of adding extensions to a woman with very thin hair but his second look is somewhat mundane.

Although incredulous at first, the judges all came around to Brig's way of thinking. Even guest judge Oribe (whose mere presence made the stylists pee their pants in awe) thought she really showed who Brig was as a stylist. It was down to her and Matthew and just when you start thinking that Matthew is going to get the win...Brig does!

That leaves Janine and Yawn as the bottom two, and the result is pretty obvious - time for Yawn to pack his scissors and go. Even if he had done a fabulous job on both styles, we all knew that Janine was not going to be eliminated, right?

So what did you think about this episode? Please let us know in the comments.
