Iman Signs On As Host, Alongside Internationally Acclaimed Designer, Isaac Mizrahi

NEW YORK – May 11, 2010 – Bravo announced today that international supermodel and fashion icon, Iman, has signed on as the host of the second season of “The Fashion Show.” Iman will join internationally acclaimed designer Isaac Mizrahi who, as previously announced, will be returning as host to the fashion competition series. The series is produced by Left/Right Productions and will air on Bravo later this year.

Iman began her career in 1975 as a model and has challenged the prevailing notions of beauty ever since. Her first modeling assignment was for Vogue in 1976. She was an instant success in the fashion world, and a muse for fashion designers including Yves. St. Laurent, Versace, Calvin Klein and Donna Karan. During her 14 years as a model, she worked with top photographers Helmut Newton, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn and Annie Liebovitz. Currently, Iman is Founder and CEO of IMAN Cosmetics, Skincare and Fragrances, a beauty company that created the first cosmetics and skincare collection designed for all women with skin of color. In addition to running a global beauty company, Iman is actively involved in several charities, including The Children’s Defense Fund, For All Kids Foundation, and Action Against Hunger. In 2006 Iman became the Global Ambassador for KEEP A CHILD ALIVE: (WWW.KEEPACHILDALIVE.ORG). She has conceived and is spearheading a national campaign called I AM AFRICAN to help awareness and raise funds for the AIDS pandemic that is ravaging her homeland. NEW YORK, NY – April 26, 2010 – Bravo celebrates the Kentucky Derby with the second annual “Ladies First: Bravo at the Kentucky Derby” special live from Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY., airing on Friday, April 30 at 5 p.m. ET/PT. This one-hour special, produced by NBC Sports and hosted by Bravo’s Andy Cohen, celebrates the very best in food, fashion and the celebrity experience associated with the 136th running of the Kentucky Oaks. Dina Manzo from ‘The Real Housewives of New Jersey,” and Jeff Lewis and Jenni Pulos from “Flipping Out” join Cohen to celebrate a day for women and to give viewers a history on the fashion and festivities before and after the Oaks race. Isaac Mizrahi, renowned designer and host of Bravo’s “The Fashion Show” will dress “Today” show correspondent Natalie Morales for the festivities, and “Top Chef” stars Michael Voltaggio, Jennifer Carroll and Eli Kirshtein will be cooking from the Infield Club.

Viewers will get to experience the thrill of the Kentucky Derby experience live from their own homes as they watch the festivities unfold – Bravo-style. From learning how to bet on horse races with “The Real Housewives of New Jersey’s” Dina Manzo, to a Derby fashion show judged by “Flipping Out’s” Jenni Pulos, viewers will get a behind-the-scenes look at everything the Kentucky Oaks has to offer. Also, the special will include a “Top Chef” cooking segment judged by “Flipping Out’s” Jeff Lewis and a countdown of the best horse moments from the “Real Housewives” franchise.

Additionally, “Top Chef: The Tour,” a state-of-the-art customized traveling kitchen with expansive space to accommodate cooks and fans alike, will make a special stop at the Kentucky Oaks in the Infield Club. The 21-city nationwide traveling tour for the No. 1 food show on cable, the Emmy and James Beard award-winning “Top Chef,” gives Bravo’s passionate fans the opportunity to interact with “chef’testants” Michael, Jennifer and Eli in Louisville in a more interactive way than ever before. Visitors of “Top Chef: The Tour,” sponsored locally by Insight Communications, will have the opportunity to sample food tastings, receive gourmet cooking tips, hear “Top Chef” show “secrets,” and get chef’testant autographs. Kentucky Oaks 136, the companion event to the annual Kentucky Derby, will feature a day of events to raise money and awareness for Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the world’s largest breast cancer organization, which leads the global movement for breast cancer research, education, advocacy and community support. Churchill Downs Racetrack, host of the Kentucky Derby® and the Kentucky Oaks®, and Komen, formed a partnership to raise funds to aid in breast cancer awareness and research.

In addition, both organizations are working together to create special events throughout Oaks Day that will be featured in the “Ladies First” special, including a First Lady of Fashion Contest, a Survivors Parade and a special Kentucky Oaks winner’s circle formed by breast cancer survivors to celebrate the Kentucky Oaks winner’s victory on the track and the survivors’ victories over breast cancer. Since the official color of both the Kentucky Oaks and breast cancer awareness is pink, Churchill Downs is also staging a “Pink Out” at the track on Oaks Day and encouraging all Oaks attendees to wear pink or to incorporate pink into their attire for the day to show their support. Through the new partnership with Susan G. Komen, Churchill Downs will donate at least $100,000 to Komen by dedicating funds from Kentucky Oaks 136 general admission and reserve seating attendance.

Blogging Bravo at "The Fashion Show" Finale

The Blogging Bravo Team arrived at Cipriani Wall Street to be greeted at the door by the charming Anthony McCarthy. Entering just ahead of us was "Make Me a Supermodel's" Sandhurst Miggins. He is tall and gorgeous.

We checked in and located our seats, Andy Cohen welcomed and charmed us...especially The Scarlett.

Andy assures us that we will love the next Fashion-Reality Show on Bravo - "Launch My Line."

The Real Housewives were all friendly and beautiful.

The RHNJ daughters also attended the show and were seated directly in front of us.

We checked out the names on the chairs in the front row. In addition to Isaac, Kelly and Fern we saw Betsey Johnson and Glenda Bailey. No sign of Laura Brown.

Before the show began the Bravolebrities all posed for the cameras. Betsey Johnson was energetic and captivating. Love her!

The director came out onto the runway to give us some instructions and then Isaac and Kelly came out to welcome everyone. The show is about to begin!

Only one more day until the premiere of The Fashion Show! Entertainment editors everywhere are offering their opinions of the new show and most can't resist comparing it to Project Runway. How will it measure up?

The Chicago Sun-Times editor gives The Fashion Show three stars and encourages everyone to watch.

The first of five questions presented to Isaac Mizrahi by AOL TV is "How is this different from Project Runway?"

One important distinction is that the winning garment from each episode of "The Fashion Show" will be available to purchase. This should be interesting....

The Detroit Free Press review mentions that The Fashion Show designers will not be making anything from food or flowers and that the emphasis will be on presenting wearable clothes.

Getting Excited About "The Fashion Show" Premiere?

The Inside Reel reports from NBC Press Day. Here is the pertinent info about "The Fashion Show."


The Fashion Show On Bravo: World renown designer Isaac Mizrahi brings his delicious style of commentary that was so prevalent in the successful Miramax film “Unzipped” to the small screen. In relation to its predecessor “Project Runway," Mizrahi says the format of this show is different in that “maybe it is more competitive”. Described by him, there is a mini challenge within each episode and then the fashion show. In terms of being on Bravo, he says “in terms of quality, [they] do it best."

Right now there will be no men’s clothes on the show but the challenges are different each time. One week could be society clothes made for only 40 dollars while another week could be shoes. In response to the evolution of fashion and celebrity understanding of what it means, Mizrahi comments “I think we have all become more aware of style. The great thing about television [and online] in general is that it is about education and communication. It is about an evolution. The stars have come a long way. They are working with stylists which they never did before.” The way the media and arts operate today, Mizrahi sees a “very fine line between red carpet and runway” as they move closer towards each other.

Kelly Rowland, formerly of Destiny’s Child, is the host of the show and points toward the exciting voting element of the show: “I like how America gets to vote the final winner. America makes stars now." She likens Kelly Clarkson as a wonderful example of this. Mizrahi likes how Rowland “cuts to the chase and says ‘that girl cannot wear that.'" A key point brought to Mizrahi’s attention was if the clothes will be seen on real people’s bodies. His reply: “I am right in the middle of promoting a Liz Claiborne line [that I designed]. [To be honest], real people are interested in seeing clothes on models. [At different points on the show] we had real people involved and it was fabulous. The answer here is multi-fold. We do make sure that there are fittings on many different body [types]. Certain designers are very good at that but [when someone] is 65, she is not 35. Paris Hilton has needs too!”
