Casting Call for New Bravo Reality Show - Sarah Jessica Parker's "The Untitled Art Project"

Bravo, Magical Elves and Sarah Jessica Parker are teaming up for a new reality show for artists.

In each episode of the series, contestants will create unique pieces highlighting art's role in everyday life, while they compete and create in a range of disciplines including sculpture, painting, photography and industrial design (to name a few). In working beyond their preferred mediums, artists will have to adapt quickly in order to succeed. Completed works of art will be appraised by a panel of top art world figures including fellow artists, gallerists, collectors, curators and critics. The finalists' work will be showcased in a nation-wide museum tour.

Auditions will be held in Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago and New York July 11 - 19th. Click here for details.

This sounds like a great concept for a show. Good luck artists!

Blogging Bravo at "The Fashion Show" Finale

The Blogging Bravo Team arrived at Cipriani Wall Street to be greeted at the door by the charming Anthony McCarthy. Entering just ahead of us was "Make Me a Supermodel's" Sandhurst Miggins. He is tall and gorgeous.

We checked in and located our seats, Andy Cohen welcomed and charmed us...especially The Scarlett.

Andy assures us that we will love the next Fashion-Reality Show on Bravo - "Launch My Line."

The Real Housewives were all friendly and beautiful.

The RHNJ daughters also attended the show and were seated directly in front of us.

We checked out the names on the chairs in the front row. In addition to Isaac, Kelly and Fern we saw Betsey Johnson and Glenda Bailey. No sign of Laura Brown.

Before the show began the Bravolebrities all posed for the cameras. Betsey Johnson was energetic and captivating. Love her!

All of the "Fashion Show" designers were there. We received a program indicating that the final six designers would each be showing ten looks.

The director came out onto the runway to give us some instructions and then Isaac and Kelly came out to welcome everyone. The show is about to begin!

Reactions to The Fashion Show Episode Eight

So what did everyone think of last night's episode?

theminx: I was a bit surprised that the designers did so poorly on the history quiz portion of the show (the Harpers Bazaar Mini Challenge). And of course that carried on through to the elimination challenge. Reco doesn't know Halston? Haven knows YSL but can't execute it? And wow - Johnny gets the win! Can't say I expected that, but congrats to him!

Reco was in the bottom two, but actually his dress was nice, in a Renaissance Faire kinda way (didn't I say that as soon as we saw it, Laura K?). Well-executed, but not Halston in any way shape or form.

I think if Anna had made a more Chanel-esque jacket - something more traditional in a beige boucle with bracelet-length or longer sleeves - she would have nabbed the win. Alas, she was beat out by Johnny's interpretation of Versace. An impressive one at that!

Laura K: I liked the quick-sew challenge. While I appreciate the raw talent of the young, spontaneous, visionary designers, I believe that in order to be taken seriously and to be a true success, it is probably necessary to have knowledge of fashion history.

Of course, I also believe that designers should be able to sew...

In many of these episodes, the "advantage" to the winner of the quick-sew doesn't end up being an advantage at all. The "advantage" becomes more of a deliberate contrivance to manufacture more personal drama and stress.

Fortunately, most of the designers (and certainly the audience) can see beyond this.

Okay, every single episode there is an unidentified bald guy telling the designers to hurry hurry hurry before the runway show. Who is this? He is kind of cute.

Congratulations to Johnny and farewell to the lovely Haven.

Andy Cohen Profile in the Los Angeles Times

Photo: Jennifer s. Altman/LATimes

I must admit some personal prejudice here because I am a big fan of Andy Cohen. The Los Angeles Times has written an excellent and compelling profile of the always-entertaining Andy.

Here are some highlights: Cohen's once-a-week live show, "Watch What Happens," will begin airing July 16. He has given himself the midnight slot. "It'll be me and a couple Bravo-lebrities and maybe a real 'lebrity taking phone calls and e-mails and tweets from Bravo fanatics live at midnight. And we're going to be sipping cocktails," he said.

My favorite though is a quote from Lauren Zalaznick: She contrasted Cohen with all those nasty bloggers on the Internet. "He's a knowing enthusiast, and it's not that he won't give you an opinion on taste or propriety or 'I like' or 'I don't like' -- it's just that he doesn't seem to need to put that opinion out in the world for any betterment of himself," she said.

Reactions to The Fashion Show Episode Seven

Another Friday has rolled around (yay!) and that means it's time to talk about last night's episode of The Fashion Show!

theminx: I liked this episode a lot. I found the Harper's Bazaar Mini Challenge to be quite amusing. The designers were all quite clever in the way they used scarves and "lost" clothing to transform their models from drunken party girl to office-ready. (No tips were offered on fixing slutty makeup or removing vomit smells from hair, however.) I really liked Johnny and Merlin's look, and was glad to see Johnny do something that really stood out.

I knew, from the preview, that the designer they would be "working for" in the Elimination Challenge would be Isaac.(The previews showed a blurred image of someone clearly male, wearing black, with short, dark, yet tall, hair. Duh.) Anna's coat was fantastic (she clearly has a knack with outerwear), and I loved Johnny and Merlin's felt jacket as well. I had to laugh at Reco and Daniella's petty unwillingness to compromise. They are both good designers, with wins under their belts, and as a team they should have been unstoppable. But childishness put them in the bottom two. Luckily for them, Lidia's dress was a real nightmare.

Laura K: I felt like the mini-challenge was unfair because success was largely determined by which items the designers grabbed from the "lost and found." In order to provide a level playing field they could have had four "lost and found" boxes with the same or similar items inside. Becki Newton is adorable and I liked her zipper-trimmed dress.

It certainly was no surprised that Isaac was the designer that the contestants would be working for. I don't know why his image was blurred in the commercials and then so obviously presented in the preview videos. Was it supposed to be a surprise to the audience or not? Anyway, it wasn't.

My favorite part of the episode was the Mood Board and I am not kidding. During the episode I turned to my daughter and said, "I need a big new bulletin board." I also felt like Merlin and Johnny had a huge advantage when they got the consultation with Isaac. They got to see the actual collection - the colors, shapes, fabrics and details - while the other designers didn't.

In the fabric store when I saw Haven and Anna's fabric choices, I said, "Oh they're going to win." That was a very inventive mix.

During the walk-through, Isaac and Kelly had absolutely no objection to Daniella's pants. I watched the show again this morning just to be sure I didn't miss something. They also expressed no concern over Lidia's design.

Isaac seems to think that James-Paul is some kind of a "genius," but I don't get it. He doesn't make any sense to me!

Of course they did express concern over the felt jacket, which in the end was nothing to be worried about and actually very effective.

I loved the orange jacket and purple blouse that Reco and Daniella created. Seriously. As much as they don't seem to get along, they did some great work.

In the end the runway show was wonderful. I would have put three designs in the top group and only one in the bottom.

Also, all of the models are lovely and I'd like to get to know them better.

What do you think? Please tell us in the comments.

Congratulations to Anna and Haven!

Wow, ladies, you really did a bang-up job with your collaboration this week! It was fun to see you work together, as you obviously clicked and things just flowed. All three pieces were fun and fashionable, and the mix of prints with a pop of bright color was really Mizrahi. Anna, your coat was completely stunning, and Haven, your culottes were cute and had a perfect proportion.

Congrats on your win! We're looking for more great things from the both of you.

This post is only for positive words for Anna, Haven, or their work. If you have anything negative to say about them or other designers, please click here.

BB Love to Lidia

Lidia, we thought for sure that you and James Paul would make a terrific team and turn out a really fabulous outfit. Unfortunately, something must have gone awry in communication between the two of you. While it was clear to see your inspiration was fish and scales and your intention was to create something glamorous, the judges just didn't buy it. A change in proportions, however, and it could have been a real stunner.

We've enjoyed watching you these past 7 weeks and are very sorry to see you go. Good luck in you fashion future, Lidia!

This post is only for positive words for Lidia or her work. If you have anything negative to say about her or another designer, please click here.

The Fashion Show - Episode 7 Previews

Tonight's episode is called "On The Job."

Actress and fashionista, Becki Newton (Ugly Betty) stops by and presents this week’s Harper’s Bazaar mini challenge - create a solution for the age-old dilemma – the “walk of shame.”

Challenged to turn last night’s party outfit into work appropriate attire, the contestants get crafty with anything and everything one would normally find in an office.

For the elimination challenge, the designers are taken to a surprise location and find themselves working for a major force in the fashion industry. The winning design will be available for purchase on BravoTV.com. Harper’s Bazaar Mini-Challenge Guest Judge: Becki Newton Elimination Challenge Guest Judge: Veronica Webb

The designers are paired up. Looks like Lidia and James-Paul, Reco and Daniella, Anna and Haven, and Merlin and Johnny. Team challenges are always good for drama!

Anyone else think that Anna is due for a win?

Congratulations to Merlin!

Merlin, you created a fabulous creation in pink that screamed "mean girl!" A huge percentage of audience members loved your design, and Isaac and Kelly appreciated it too. The shiny fabrics you favor really served you well in this challenge.

Although you felt like you weren't sure if you were doing the right thing, which led to a few tears, you absolutely did. Never doubt yourself!

This post is only for positive words for Merlin or his work. If you have anything negative to say about him or another designer, please click here.

BB Love to Angel

Angel, we're surprised and sorry to see you go this week. You showed such great potential in past challenges, especially with that very clever double shirtdress from a few weeks ago. Although there wasn't anything particularly wrong with the individual components of your design this week, Kelly was insulted and Isaac didn't like your trousers. And your unfamiliarity with hip hop culture caused you to miss the theme entirely.

We would have loved to see you get a chance to work with your innovative fabrics on the show, particularly color-changing prints. But we'll definitely keep an eye out for your work in the future.

This post is only for positive words for Angel or her work. If you have anything negative to say about her or another designer, please click here.

Reactions to The Fashion Show Episode Six

So, what did everyone think about episode 6 of The Fashion Show?

Theminx: Both the Quickfire Harpers Bazaar Mini Challenge and the Elimination Challenge shared a theme this week. The former seemed more of a graphic design challenge, and it showed that Daniella has skills in that department too. A little expected, perhaps, but well-excuted.

I liked the Elimination Challenge and thought most designers did a pretty good job this week. I didn't notice any loose hems or random safety pins. I agreed with Haven and Merlin being in the top two - loved Merlin's color scheme and the sweater fabric. And Haven herself was adorable in that 80s-throwback Krystle Carrington look she wore for the Elimination! (Sigh, I miss the 80s.)

Poor Angel, excoriated for not being familiar with b girl fashion. Personally, I wouldn't know it if it bit me on the...well, you know. It could have been worse, you know - she could have known the original definition of the term, "b girl."

Laura K: It seemed to me that Angel was eliminated because she didn't know what a B-girl was. Kelly seemed to be personally insulted by this rather than an "impartial" judge.

At the end of the episode when Johnny and Angel were standing with their models, my son came into the room. "Who do you think should be off?" he asked.

"Okay, look at the designers. Look at what Johnny is wearing. Now look at Angel. Who do you think is the best designer? Who do you think that I would prefer?"

"Oh. The girl," he replied. (He is only twelve.)

Also, I think that by including those tacky accessories in the "inspiration" backpacks, the designers were led down a specific path. Angel designed an outfit for the kind of person who would wear those glasses. And really, anyone wearing those glasses would not be considered stylish at all. It would be as a joke, a costume, or she would be an eight-year-old, not a twenty-something.

Now it's your turn. Please leave a comment with your thoughts.

Field Report - Bethenny Frankel in Bryn Mawr

Bethenny Frankel of the hit Bravo reality show 'The Real Housewives of New York City' held court at the super-chic SKIRT, a boutique in the Philadelphia suburb of Bryn Mawr. The store was a hive of activity as Skinnygirl Margaritas freely flowed and Bethenny's New York Times Bestseller, 'Naturally Thin: Unleash Your SkinnyGirl and Free Yourself from a Lifetime of Dieting' quickly sold out. There were burly security guards that may have been stationed to control rogue Main Line housewives but the line that snaked throughout the store was orderly, patient and fashionably dressed. Every now and then someone would comment about Bethenny, "She's gorgeous!" or "She's so tiny!" but the talk in the line was about the recent season of RHWoNYC and how Frankel had established herself as their favorite.

When it was my turn to get my book signed (and an additional copy which we will give away) I just had to tell her, "By the way, you DID look adorable in that Zac dress." (Click here for her reaction.) She laughed and replied, "I love that dress." (Click here for the video that prompted my comment and to see the dress.)

In case you're wondering, a Skinnygirl Margarita is a very strong drink that is meant to be slowly sipped rather than guzzled. Delicious - but did I mention it was strong?

Bethenny was completely gracious and she charmed her audience at SKIRT. Check here to find out about her upcoming appearances. Now I'm off to unleash my inner skinnygirl!

Reactions to The Fashion Show Episode Five

So, what did everyone think about episode 5 of The Fashion Show?

Theminx: I thought the HB mini challenge was a time-waster. Since when do designers have to draw things from memory in a short timeframe on a regular basis? Design is about inspiration, not copying. I also thought Lidia should have won the challenge.

As for the main challenge - what a bunch of whiny babies! While your models might have been larger than a size 0 or 2, none of them were overweight or grossly out of proportion. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the average American woman is 5'4", weighs 163 lbs, and has a 36.5" waist. Get used to it. I did agree that Reco and Danielle had the best designs, but I liked Haven's as well. AND...I liked Merlin's jacket. Sadly, I agree with Keith's elimination, in that his design was not what it could be.

Laura K: Congratulations to Daniella for winning the Mini Challenge as well as the Elimination Challenge! I LOVED the Mini Challenge. That was one of my favorite parts of the episode. I enjoyed the twist of having the designers sketch Kelly's dress rather than Isaac's design.

However, how was "Placing one of the designers in the bottom three" a "Serious advantage in the Elimination Challenge?" That was no advantage at all. Honestly, if anything it was a DISadvantage.

Why would the judges eliminate a designer just because Daniella chose her to be in the bottom three? They wouldn't and they didn't. So now we have manufactured discord between Daniella and Angel. With emotions high it is not in Daniella's best interest to have another designer pitted against her. At this point, they need support from one another so that they will each be able to put forth their very best work. This was nothing but a lame attempt to manufacture some unnecessary drama and to call it an award or an advantage for Daniella was completely ridiculous.

Your turn. Leave your thoughts in the comments :)

Congratulations to Daniella!

Daniella, you pulled off a second win with your excellent work. Brava! Despite the fact that you seemed stumped about what to do for your curvy model, and didn't feel she was helpful in communicating to you what she did and did not want, you created an inspired look.

Fern Mallis thought your choice of mixing black and navy was chic, and we do too.

BB Love to Keith

Keith, we are sad to see you go. Evening wear and the cocktail dress are your forté, but somehow you missed the mark with this week's real woman challenge. (Theminx knew what you were going for; sorry it didn't come out the way it was originally envisioned).

We look forward to seeing more of your Keith Lissner designs - already we see one of the Real Housewives of NY has been wearing them! Good luck and great success in your future work.

The lovely Alex McCord looks charming in another Keith Lissner design. Simon van Kempen looks adorable as well. The couple attended the 34th Annual AWRT (American Women in Radio and Television) Gracie Awards Gala last night.
